As a long-time art buyer who’s been buying young-up-coming artist primarily in New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Seattle for over 20 years I can honestly tell you that I seldom or never advise anyone to take up art as a profession, but in Vera Gaskari’s case I can do nothing else, in that upon seeing her work earlier this year in San Diego, I informed her that she should forgo her day time job to focus all of her attention to her art. Which will be a great gift to the world. In viewing her illustrations it’s clear that she knows beforehand where each line will touch the paper and why…more importantly she is one of those rare artist who’s key attribute is her god giving ability to relate her imagination to the viewer. Her drawings remind me most of the great Aubrey Veardsley in turns of ornamental rhythm, abstract decorations and venomous elegance.
In Vera you have a contestant who is supremely gifted, has a natural aptitude for drawing, and will represent your award best.
Which I hope she receives.
